The Italian national team will not play for the first time in their history in Brazil after missing out on a spot in the 2018 World Cup quarterfinals with a thigh injury.
The Panthers beat the United States 2-1 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday and are expected to be able to return to action soon after.
They have lost seven of their last nine games.
It was their only World Cup appearance since 2008.
Italy is yet to make the quarterfinals in a tournament for which they have qualified since 1986.
