Melania Trump will host the inaugural girls gymnastic meet and go-around on Friday in New York City, according to the White House.
The White House confirmed the news to NBC News.
Trump will attend the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a spokeswoman said in a statement to NBC.
“We are honored to have President Trump at our first girls gymnast meet and greeting,” the spokeswoman said.
“President Trump and his team are thrilled to welcome the first women to the Olympic team, and we are looking forward to hosting our inaugural girls meet and gala at the Met.”
Trump, the first female president of the United States, will be joined by two members of the Trump family, former President Barack Obama and First Lady Melania Trump.
It is the first time that the first lady will attend a meet and greets.
Trump and her husband, former president Donald Trump, have been working hard to expand their presence in the United State’s women’s sports world.
They were featured on NBC’s “Today” show in August to discuss women’s athletics, as well as the “Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit” that will take place this weekend.
The meeting will take part in the first of two events this weekend at the United Nations, which is expected to be attended by women athletes from more than 100 countries.
The Trump family has also been working with the UN Women to expand the reach of its global sports and culture initiatives.
“The first lady and her staff are excited to host the girls gymnasts meet and visit at the UN in New Jersey,” a White House official told NBC News in a press release.
“They have been hosting the women’s meet and welcome at the USOC since 2018, and are excited that this is their first visit.”
The first lady, who is also the first first lady of the U.S. Senate, also visited the UN earlier this year to meet with the International Olympic Committee.
“I’ve met with the IOC for many years,” Trump said at the time.
“In fact, I’ve met every IOC president since then.
We’re excited to continue to expand that engagement and to be a part of their journey.”
