The man was also charged with attempted murder, authorities said.
The woman, who was not identified, was also arrested and charged.
New York State Police said officers responded to the home at 9:40 p.m.
Tuesday for a report of a person shot.
The home was searched and officers found a 30-caliber semi-automatic handgun at the scene, police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Breen said.
She said police did not identify the man or the woman, citing their status as fugitives.
Police say they do not believe the two are connected to any other cases.
The New York Post reported Tuesday night that the woman had been a teacher at the school since March and that she had attended several competitions.
She was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and was a certified instructor of gymnastics, the newspaper reported.
