The Georgia gymnastics team will be without the country’s best athlete when they travel to Wisconsin for the NCAA women’s gymnastics championship on Thursday.
Team leader Megan Lutz tweeted the news on Sunday.
She tweeted that the team would be without gymnast Shana Millers and senior Emily Goudreau for Thursday’s competition.
Goudreau was injured when a fall from a gymnastics vault landed on her leg and was pulled off the mat.
A second fall landed on Lutz’s foot.
She tweeted that she will not be able to compete in the championship, saying “It is devastating.
I can’t even tell you how much it means to me to be able live and train at home.”
Millers and Goudrieres were the team’s top two finishers in the men’s competition at the Atlanta Olympics.
The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Lutz, who finished fifth in the women’s competition, had a career-best 10th-place finish in the team event.
Guthrieres tweeted the same message.
